Is Your Computer Making You Fat?

Many of us sit at our computers while eating, but did you know that multi-tasking can contribute to weight gain? If you’re distracted while you eat, your brain doesn’t register how much you’ve actually eaten, and leaves you feeling less satisfied and wanting dessert. Distracted eating can also cause you to feel bloated after meals as your body can’t digest your food properly when you’re focused on something other than eating. Just changing this one habit goes a long way to helping people lose weight. If you’re guilty of distracted eating with every meal, start by changing one meal. For example, I often encourage patients to take a proper lunch while at work. Give yourself 30 minutes to enjoy your lunch and pay attention to the food on your plate. Your body will thank you for this break, and when you return to work you’ll be more focused and productive because your brain had a break, too!
